ALGS Championship 2023 Roster Locked In

So, with LCQ done with over the weekend, the question is who are we seeing at the ALGS Championship 2023 in Birmingham?

We saw 30 teams qualify for the ALGS Championship after London’s Split 2 Playoffs. The remaining 10 slots were filled over the weekend in which the ALGS Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQ) were held. All five regions went through LCQs in which 2 teams of each region qualified for Champs.

The LCQs

I’ve talked about the LCQ’s before, but let me just break it down once again!

The LCQs (Last Chance Qualifiers) are held in five different regions: North America, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), APAC-North (Asia-Pacific North), APAC-South (Asia-Pacific South), and South America. Each of these regions will host its own LCQ.

In each region’s LCQ, a total of 40 teams will compete for the opportunity to qualify for the ALGS Championship. These 40 teams are then divided into two groups of 20 each. The tournament format follows the same structure as the Playoff and Championship LAN format until the Match Point LCQ Final.

Both groups of 20 teams start in the Winner’s Bracket and compete in Round 1 Group A and Round 1 Group B. The top 10 teams from each of these groups advance to the Winners Bracket Round 2. The remaining 10 teams from each group that didn’t qualify for Round 2 move to the Lower Bracket Round 1.

In Winners Bracket Round 2, the top 10 teams from each group compete in the Match Point Final. This final determines the two teams from each region that will qualify for the ALGS Championship.

The 10 teams that didn’t make it to the Match Point Final from the Winners Bracket Round 2, along with the top 10 teams from the Lower Bracket Round 1, compete in the Lower Bracket Round 2. Any teams that fail to finish in the top 10 during this round are eliminated from the competition.

In summary, each region’s LCQ consists of 40 teams divided into two groups of 20. The top 10 teams from Winners Bracket Round 2 move on to the Match Point Final, where only two teams from each region will qualify for the ALGS Championship. The other teams compete in the Lower Bracket, with those not making the top 10 in the Lower Bracket Round 1 getting eliminated.

WHO QUALIFIED?

North America

  • The Dojo
  • DNO

Crowd favourite, FURIA fail to qualify. HisWattson from FURIA retired after the Split 2 Playoffs, in which Albralelie was signed to the team in his place. iitzTimmy, a huge Apex Legends streamer, who is currently playing for The Dojo, has qualified alongside his teammates Dezignful (previously G2) and Enemy. They started in pole position for the spot after an incredible performance in the Winners Bracket.

On the other side, DNO has senoxe, Dooplex and Loustreams also qualifying for the championship. This will be the first time we see Loustreams back at an ALGS LAN since 2019. We saw Dooplex back at Raleigh in 2022 in which it was his LAN debut.

South America

  • SAF Esports
  • K1CK

Glytch and Noctem, who were both  present at the London Split 2 Playoffs failed to qualify this time. We will see SAF Esports and K1CK joining the other teams instead.

EMEA

  • GoNext
  • LCDF

GoNext secures their spot to fight for a chance once again at an ALGS LAN after adding B4mbino to their team.. Entropiq failed to qualify to return to the global stage. We also see Vexed Gaming failing to qualify; gdolphn stepped in to fill TylerFPS’ shoes after he had been released from Vexed Gaming.

We also see LCDF qualifying which was a huge surprise considering how they did not perform well in the previous split playoffs as well as during the pro league season. We look forward to see them perform infront of a global stage this time.

APAC North

  • Crazy Raccoon
  • NORTHEPTION

Northeption had a slight roster chance in which Teams Naked and Northeption swapped players ahead of LCQ. Northeption’s Reyzy joined team Naked, and Naked’s Lykq joined Northeption. It’s great to see familiar faces, Crazy Raccoon and Northeption back at the Global Stage.

APAC South

  • MDY White
  • Inside The ring

MDY White exudes their dominance and regain their spot to fight for the championship title. They will be rejoined by ‘Inside the Ring’.
