ZETA DIVISION: Asia-Pacific’s 4th VALORANT Champions 2023 Rep
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|July 24, 2023|0 Comment
ZETA DIVISION successfully secured their position in VALORANT Champions 2023 as the fourth team from VCT Pacific to qualify. They’re now getting ready for the exciting event in Los Angeles, California, scheduled for 6-26 August.
The Japanese powerhouse earned their ticket to the third VALORANT world championship with a solid victory against Team Secret from the Philippines in the Grand Finals of the VCT Pacific Last Chance Qualifier. The final match concluded with a 3-1 score, where ZETA DIVISION claimed wins on Fracture, Split, and Lotus, while Team Secret managed to secure Ascent.
The Last Chance Qualifier was the last opportunity for the remaining seven VCT Pacific teams to secure their spot in Los Angeles. ZETA DIVISION joins the ranks of Paper Rex, DRX, and T1, making their way to the championship.
In a post-match interview, Grand Finals MVP Koji “Laz” Ushida expressed his delight about the win, acknowledging its significance in reaching Champions. As for what awaits them in Los Angeles, he’s unsure but thrilled about the experience.
The team’s captain, Laz, delivered outstanding performances, particularly when using his signature agent Chamber. Additionally, Tomoaki “crow” Maruoka has significantly improved his game since his time in the Pacific League.
A noteworthy shift in the team’s dynamics was observed during the Last Chance Qualifier, with Sawada “JUNiOR” Yuya taking over the coaching desk instead of the usual Hibiki “XQQ” Motoyama, suggesting possible changes in strategy.
ZETA DIVISION’s journey to the championship began with impressive victories over Rex Regum Qeon and Team Secret during the LCQ campaign. This led them to the final bout against Team Secret in a best-of-five series.
The series against Team Secret was intense, with ZETA DIVISION managing to hold them off in overtime, but Team Secret fought back and secured a win on Ascent. Undeterred, the Japanese team regained momentum on Split and took the map. The fourth map, Lotus, saw ZETA DIVISION dominating with a comfortable win, sealing the series and earning their place in the championship.
This will be ZETA DIVISION’s eighth international appearance, joining Pacific region peers Paper Rex, DRX, and T1, who also earned their spots in the top three of the league. It’s going to be an exciting showdown in Los Angeles!
